Start Right Eat Right is an award scheme, funded by the Victorian Department of Human Services, which recognises best practice in nutrition and food service in long day care centres. Childcare centres can have a significant positive influence on childrens food preferences.
Centres are ideally placed to allow children to experience a wide variety of foods providing a good starting point to healthy eating and helping to form lifelong eating habits. Start Right Eat Right encourages centres to provide healthy foods in a positive mealtime environment. A dietitian is an integral support in this project and offers guidance, training and assessment of services involved in Start Right Eat Right.
A Goulburn Valley Health dietitian is employed to coordinate the Start Right Eat Right Program in the Greater Shepparton area. This is a current program running from December 2008 til June 2009. Referral is required. Contact Gowrie Victoria: Phone (03) 9362 2227 or Fax (03) 9347 7567.
